Web Directions South 2011

Last week we were lucky enough to attend the Web Directions South conference in Darling Harbor, Sydney (what a location!). WDS is a trade show about everything in the web environment, with 4 main sections - Design, Development, W3C and BigPicture. The conference consisted of trade booths, networking events and concurrent workshops and lectures running all day.

The Tools We Use To Streamline Our Business

Over the years I have been asked a number of times how and what we use to manage our business. Some may think this question is a little invasive especially in a completive industry such as web development. However, transparency is one of Hive Web Studio’s core values and we are passionate about community and the sharing of ideas to evolve. Majority of our business practices involve some kind of openness, from our weekly staff meetings, what we share with our staff through and our pricing and product delivery to clients.

FREE websites!

A recent discussion on the Sky Business Channel sparked and interesting conversation in the Hive.net.au office. The discussion was based around research released by MYOB finding that two-thirds of SMBs don't currently have their own website. This seems quite strange when we know online consumer purchases are increasing.

Published by the popular web design and development blog, Smashing Magazine, the book provides interesting insights into design, usability and coding. The book covers tried and tested principles from industry professionals, making for an excellent reference point when working on web and design projects.

New changes to Facebook

You may have noticed there have been some changes to Facebook lately, most notably the 'new look' fan/business pages now with closer resemblance to the personal profile pages. Some people will like the new changes and others won't. Either way, the changes have been made so it's important to use them to your advantage to keep your fans interested!
